You must be familiar with power washing homes by using high-pressure water jets to clean the exterior surfaces of the building thoroughly. Plumbers at Super Rooter Plumbing & Leak Detection deploy a similar technique for cleaning clogged drains that are not easy to clean manually. The method known as Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water spray generated with the help of a specialized nozzle to remove grease, sludge, and other debris clogging pipelines of the drainage and sewage system. Hydro jetting is effective for commercial and residential plumbing systems. The water jet cleans the pipes thoroughly and quickly as the water reaches the most inaccessible parts without much effort. The technique helps to overcome the limitations of cleaning clogged pipes by using snakes and other manual means. The high-pressure water jet easily breaks down all kinds of debris, including congealed baby wipes and food residues.
How Hydro jetting works
The plumber uses a jetter, the equipment meant for hydro jetting. The letter consists of a water tank fitted with a hose with a nozzle at the end for releasing water. In addition, a device pressurizes the water in the hose so that it can eject at a very high speed through the nozzle. Nozzles of different shapes and sizes are available, and the plumber chooses one according to the materials constituting the clog and the drain size. A chisel-type nozzle can produce a water stream capable of effectively cutting hardened buildup and hard blockages like ice and roots.
The plumber identifies the nature of clogging and sets up the equipment by choosing the right type of nozzle while placing it inside the pipe through the cleanout opening. The plumber then sprays high-pressure water, often to the tune of 3500 lbs per square inch, inside the pipe, and the blast of water effectively breaks down the blocks that cause clogging. The tremendous force and speed of water clean the clog while flushing away the built-up debris from inside the pipe.
Preparing for hydro jetting
The plumber will first carry out an inspection of the clogged pipeline to identify the spots of blockage and understand the extent and nature of materials accumulated within the debris. Sending a tiny video camera inside the sewer line helps the plumber see what’s inside and create a cleaning plan accordingly. The visuals help to identify the nature of clogging, whether it is only accumulated debris and solidified waste or some hard blocks like tree roots. Although hydro jetting can deal with blockages created by tree roots, the plumber will first use a snake to break down the heavy chunks into manageable pieces.
The video inspection also helps to ensure that the configuration of the pipe will not cause any back flush and prevent sewage water from mixing with clean water. The highly effective cleaning achieved with hydrojetting is not possible by any other means. Moreover, the plumber can thoroughly clean pipes as the high-water pressure does not allow any residue to stick to the walls inside the pipes. Most importantly, water is the safest cleaning material, which ensures an eco-friendly cleaning process, and the technique of cleaning is highly safe.
